SERVICES - RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

In 1998, Fred Finch Youth Center created one of the nation’s first comprehensive, specialized residential treatment programs in Oakland, California. This new treatment model uniquely grouped services together for youth who are both emotionally disturbed and have a developmental disability. The success of this innovative residential treatment approach led to successful replication of this program in San Diego and Vacaville, California.

Individuals served in these programs have usually suffered some form of discrimination or stigma in their community. Some have mental health impairments resulting from abuse or neglect. Some have available families, others do not. Some have had trouble with the law. All need safety, 24 hour support, a specialized school program and mental health services. With these they can learn to recognize their strengths, demonstrate their skills and develop positive relationships.

Our residential treatment services provide around the clock care, mental health support, behavioral management, psychiatric services, and academic services to youth who cannot yet live in a family home. Our multi-disciplinary teams provide individualized services that are culturally sensitive and focus on a successful return back to their home or to independent community living.

Due to the successful outcomes of our residential treatment, we’ve added a new type of service for youth with developmental delays who need short-term crisis intervention. These temporary services are aimed at quickly stabilizing the youth while we work very closely with their families to aid the transition back to independent living.

All residential services are licensed by the California Department of Social Services; certified by the county Medi-Cal program and the California Department of Education; and accredited by the Commission of Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Services are located in the San Francisco Bay Area and San Diego Region.
