Training Description
One of the most significant challenges for those supporting system involved youth is to effectively engage youth and families and help them build constructive, transformational behaviors that are sustainable and lead to healthy community engagement and improved outcomes for system involved youth. In this training, participants will learn how to enhance our capacity to support system involved youth by exploring how to use calm power practices to enhance relationship and leadership success to redirect their energy towards emotional development and wellbeing, as well as foster their resilience and ability to heal from traumatic events. Practicing and sharing the methods outlined by this workshop will allow us to deepen our effectiveness with system-involved youth while supporting them towards healthier lifestyles and will help improve the practice of how we empower system-involved youth.
Learning Objectives
● Participants will be able to identify at least 2 energy management approaches that support system-involved youth to pause and reflect before reacting to trauma triggers.
● Participants will be able to identify at least 2 calm power practices that can strengthen system-involved youth ability to meet emotional needs & model for others effective leadership approaches.
● Participants will be able to identify at least 2 coaching points for helping system-involved youth utilize calm power practicesto improve the quality of their personal and professional relationships.

11:00-11:05am Introduction
11:05-11:15am Explore a sampling of approaches that foster the ability of system-involved youth to pause and reflect before reacting to trauma triggers.
11:15-11:30am Roleplay practice of the approaches that foster the ability of system-involved youth to pause and reflect before reacting to trauma triggers.
11:30-11:45am Learn the philosophy of “Calm Power” and how it works to redirect the system-involved youth energy towards behavioral change that strengthens one’s relationship and leadership skills as a support strategy for helping individuals to change problematic behaviors.
11:45am-12pm Learn the application of “Calm Power” practices in leadership and relationship building and how it works to redirect the system-involved youth energy towards behavioral change that strengthens one’s own protective factors and ability to self-advocate in emotionally intelligent ways.
12:00-12:15pm Roleplay practice of the approaches of “Calm Power” and how it works to redirect the system-involved youth energy towards behavioral change that strengthen one’s relationship and leadership skills as a support strategy for helping individuals to change problematic behaviors.
12:15-12:30pm Explore Coaching Points to be used to guide youth who are system involved or at high risk for system involvement to strengthen their ability to utilize calm power practices in relationship building and leadership.
12:30-12:45pm Roleplay/Practice Coaching Points to be used to guide youth who are system involved or at high risk for system involvement to strengthen their ability to utilize calm power practices in relationship building and leadership.

Meet Our Trainer
Mr. Robert Dousa is the founding Managing General Partner of Independent Strengths Building Consulting. This business includes: Individual Anger Management & Addictive Behavior Recovery Coaching, Conducting training of: Situational Leadership/Strengths-Based Life Skills Coaching, Brief Intervention & Motivational Interviewing, Drug, Anger Management, & Family interventions, Neuroscience-Based Leadership & Rapport Building, & Organizational Prevention Strategy Consultation, & Mandated Reporter Training for CA. Mr. Robert Dousa's has retired from the Marin County Office of Education Safe Schools Department and is now providing individual life coaching, intervention coach training, and consulting to those supporting system involved youth. Prior to retirement, he developed the majority of his practice from his work as the Program Manager for the Oakland Unified School District’s Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs Intervention program from 2005 to 2021. Prior to that, he served as a substance abuse counselor in school districts in Alameda County, CA from 2000 to 2005.
This course meets the qualifications for (2.0) BBS CE hours for LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences & is provided by Fred Finch Youth Center, CAMFT Provider #045295.
